Thigh Lift (Thighplasty) Lower Body Lift

INDICATIONS

Loss of skin elasticity of the inner and outer thigh, hip and buttocks

Loose or excess skin on the thighs and buttocks due to aging or weight loss

INTENDED RESULT

Tighter, more attractive thigh and buttock skin, improved contours and decreased irregularities in the skin's surface

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

The procedure is usually performed under sedation with local or general anesthesia, depending on the extent of the surgery.

It is usually performed on an outpatient basis unless your surgeon advises otherwise.

A variety of incision designs can meet the patientÕs clothing needs or personal goals.

Lifting the inner thighs requires incisions extending from the anterior part of the groin around to the buttock crease.

Lifting the entire thigh and buttock (circumferential lower body lift) requires much longer incisions that start in the buttock crease, extend around the groin, up over the side of the abdomen, over the flank and across the back.

Additional procedures that may enhance the result:

Liposuction
Tummy tuck

RECUPERATION AND HEALING

The patient wears a compression garment (similar to a long-line elastic support girdle) after surgery to reduce swelling and assist in the natural shrinking and tightening of the skin.

For small thigh lifts, initial discomfort is easily controlled with prescription pain medication.

For larger thigh lifts, one or two nights in a hospital or skilled nursing facility is usually required. This allows for pain injections and intravenous catheters, if necessary.

Bruising and swelling usually subside within a month.

Strenuous activities are usually possible within 6 weeks, and all symptoms are gone in 4 to 6 months.

Onsite therapeutic massage can increase tissue mobility, reduce swelling and enhance overall comfort.

INSURANCE GUIDELINES

A thigh lift is considered a cosmetic procedure and is not covered by insurance. The patient is responsible for payment.
