Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia)

Excessive male breast tissue

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

Excess breast tissue or fat can be removed with liposuction, excision or a combination of both. Glandular tissue and skin will also be removed if necessary. A typical incision is made either on the edge of the areola or in the armpit area. The procedure is usually done on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia with sedation.

RECUPERATION AND HEALING

You will go home with specific instructions. A compression vest or chest wrapping is usually indicated for a week or two after surgery to help reduce swelling. Sutures are usually removed within 7-10 days after surgery.

Additional procedures that may enhance the result:

• Liposuction of excess fat in the armpit area
• Contouring and flattening of the abdomen with liposuction and/or tummy tuck

INSURANCE GUIDELINES

This operation is occasionally covered by some, but not all, insurance companies. Preapproval or denial is obtained from your insurance carrier before surgery. The patient is responsible for any payment not covered by insurance.
